Oman issues telecom dataStatistics issued by dint of the National Economy Ministry have shown that subscribers of the fixed phone service presented by Omantel in the Sultanate's various regions and governorates amounted to 257381 ones as at the end of April 2006 compared to 250342 during the corresponding period in 2005 constituting a 28% rise. According to ONA, subscribers of billed fixed phone service in the Sultanate stood at 227214 by the agency of the end of April 2006 compared to 224920 by the agency of the end of December 2005 Subscribers of pre-paid fixed phone service (Sahl) were 30167 through the end of April 2006 against 25422 at the extreme point of December 2005. The number of public phone all above the country stood at 6824 during the same period, compared to 6770 during December 2005 The statistics indicated that 114311 individuals subscribed to the fixed phone service in Muscat Governorate as at the extremity of April 2006. Subscribers of the same service at the extremity of April 2006 were 40322 one in the Batinah region, 23874 in the Dakhiliyah region, 18524 in Dhofar Governorate, 19067 in the Sharqiyah region, 14786 in the Dhahirah region, 2924 in Musandam Governorate and 230 ones in the Wusta region. Subscribers of billed and pre-paid GSM service provided by means of Oman mobile and Al-Nawras rose through 14% to 1,519,560 at the extreme point of April this year, compared to 1333225 at the extreme point of December 2005.
