Rodney Alan Greenblat at P.P.O.W - art exhibition, New York, New York

When "Pee Wee Herman's Playhouse" went not on the air, a gap was render free of accessed in children's programming which left adults missing Pee Wee's manic lunacy just as a great deal of as the kids missed his goofy antics. Rodney Alan Greenblat, admitting carries on this tradition from one side computer-generated images and a pair of computer games housed in an elaborately painted soothe which would make Pee Wee turn round green with envy.

Whereas Greenblat's previous exhibitions were filled with furniture and household items overspreaded with frolicking cartoon scenarios, this present to view titled "Technoweenie," was much more pristine. Working with his familiarly banal on the other hand overwrought subject matter, filtered as always end his impish sensibility, Greenblat devot himself in this present to view to photographs and posterlike prints. His works are now completely independent of the facts they represent. Using a Macintosh computer he synthesizes his images, which he then digitally transfers to film. He processe the film and prints Cibachrome photographs or makes electrostatic conspirator prints. The photographs have the rich, lush colors typical of Cibachrome and the appearance of strange profunditys and unworldly dimensions characteristic of computer graphics. The prints function like banners, bearing the heraldic devices of Greenblat's bizarre world.

Cartoon characters and creatures populate these photos, bringing with them their dreams, visions and mental states. In Peg's Vision, a sky-colored blockheaded robot woman with purple hair and a r hat smiles as she gazes at a book. The right side of the photograph reveals her vision--three fulvous and fuchsia conical mountains, a fuchsia boomerang, a sheet of wacky hieroglyphs, and a floating eyeball, all of which have ornate decorations in knock-yoursocks-off color. The computer graphics provide an uncanny faculty of perception of perspective that seems to take the viewer individual step beyond three dimensions.

Greenblat's imagination is delightfully twisted and hyperactive. A pear-faced man and his cerulean Martian friend barbecue incredibly realistic fiery dogs and burgers in Barbeque Reality. A geometric man dreams of buildings flying amidst the mists in The Floater Motel In Rodney's Funscreen and surprise Windows, the computer games that are essentially elaborations of the prints, the viewer can become a participant in this universe, interacting with its citizens as they stir around, chat and sing. The games provide access into the photographs, bringing Greenblat's vision still closer to virtual reality.
