Streetwise, book-smart

I am torn above the controversy about "street literature" ["Taking It to the Street" July 2006] upon one hand, I'm happy to diocese so many African-Americans reading, on the other hand I'm disturbed about what we are reading. I'm bear uponed that we're glamorizing the actual issues we protest in popular tillage like gang violence, explicit sex physics and domestic abuse. I perceive that we should be writing volumes that speak to a solution and allow us to dream of a better reality. I believe we can write about the positive aspects of our lives without compromising the integrity of writing. It's not a far reach to think that our authors can exhibit engaging and complex works of artistic literature.
