Burn baby burn: heat up those washes for a hot background

More times than not. I find that my heat fire-arm is the catalyst to many of my "discoveries." Murphy's Law is alive and well at my house, in the way that only adds to the adventure--"If anything can move wrong, it will." Case in point, while happily crafting in my studio. I knocked above a group of Adirondack color wash bottle And, of course, I hadn't secur the tops thus they proceeded to dump onto my endue of KromeKote.

After using a wad of paper towels to put to proof and clean up, I decided to evaporate the coloring liquor with my trusty heat fire-arm I noticed immediately that the heat effectively halted the interaction of the different colors of coloring liquors and made for some really amazing consequences The rest as they say, is history. I am a firm believer in happy accidents and am thankful that I am with equal reason "accident prone" in my hold studio. Nice try Murphy!

INSTRUCTIONS

Color Wash Technique 1 Lay a sheet of KromeKote in a chest top lid, glossy side up 2 Taking care to shelter anything you don't want technicolor and permanently dy from the washes, spray the color washes above the paper. Start with a solid base coat of the lightest color and work your way to the darkest color. Saturate the paper with color wash, letting the coloring liquors blend and pool for the best consequence 3. Using a heat fire-arm blast heat on the paper from about 4-5 inches above the paper. Starting from the middle, heat the paper until it's free from moisture It will begin to inflect but don't worry, it will eventually flatten without The intense heat and quick "baking action" of the heat fire-arm will cook the color into the paper. It may also sooty vapor a bit but take care not to torch it--the paper can reduce to ashes As you chase the last globules of color wash across the paper, interesting patterns will start to form. This technique is uncontrollable and there is no way to know by what means certain color combinations will move round out--it's always a surprise! 4 one time your paper is completely free from moisture on the surface, you'll notice that it will be a bit damp upon the backside. Lay it on the outside overnight to dry completely.

When you're finished inking up your minister of KromeKote you'll have beautiful custom-made backgrounds, ready to use upon a ton of different art throws It brings new meaning to "wash day."
