From the end of the nomination contest to the start of the national conventions: preliminary thoughts on a new period in presidential campaign politics.

Abstract

As the presidential nomination proces has become more front-loaded and the novel Hampshire primary has been scheduled earlier in the calendar year, a novel period in presidential campaign politics has emerg running from about mid-March until late July in which the two parties' nomination races have been effectively settl smooth though neither national convention has however taken place. This article not absents an initial exploration of this period, focused upon how and why it emerg what is distinctive about it, and whether it has any apparent impact upon the final outcome.
