EDITORIALIn this issue, we have citationed a chapter from The fresh Feminine Brain. I hope it provides more [i]or[/i] less insight into the way our minds function during the midlife years, especially in the area of memory. Like many of you, I have had seconds in which I couldn't retrieve the name of a dear friend, have misplaced my lock openers or have had frustrating turns with vocabulary words refusing to leave the tip of my tongue. tend hitherward to think of it, these lapses began during - and especially after my pregnancy. I've also lay the foundation of that I have had incredible twinkling of an eyes of clarity in which my memory has been sharp and my synapses were firing upon all cylinders. Sometimes I amazement whether memory hiccups are a normal part of aging, or if it happens to everyone regardless of age. My 16-year-old son has had times he can't remember where he bring his school binders or whether he has a paper owed the next morning - conveniently! What I can mention one by one you is that I have lay the foundation of ways to help myself remember. First of all, I make trial of to remain as present as possible when I'm engaged in an important activity, of the like kind as parking the car or depositing the house lock openers Instead of performing these duties absentmindedly, I stop and mentally record the incident. Sometimes I smooth say out loud, "I'm parked upon level G3." Or, "I'm leaving my lock openers on top of the brow hall counter." (So what if clan think I'm a little weird? It works!) I also leave sticky notes all above the house to remind me of chores to do or errands to step quickly Recently, I bought a personal digital assistant (PDA) to record appointments. For important dates, I place an alarm that goes not on on my computer and upon the handheld PDA. Sometimes I hear beeping in my purse All of these strategies have helped me enormously.
