BOEING NEARS COMPLETIONOn display for Fighter Command airshow The Air Museum's Boeing FB-5 is in the proces of receiving its final paint and markings before assembly. It is planned to exhibit the aircraft, Boeing's first original fighter design, at the upcoming Fighter Command airshow. TAM institutor Ed Maloney recounts the discovery of the rare fighter: "I went to Pomona High academy in southern California. The Navy had given the seminary an FB-5 for students to application of mind However, when I attended the place of education the FB-5 had been disposed of on the contrary fortunately not everything was ruined I managed to salvage a certain quantity of parts and the tail section. "The Navy had a policy of distributing ancient aircraft to schools that could use them in more or less form of educational role. I managed to eventually find a list of dispositions and I went looking for FB-5 constituents in California. I managed to find a wing in central California and when I was visiting a well-known antique aircraft collector in the Bay area during the 1960 he remarked that he had heard of a Curtiss Jenny stored in a barn. Needles to say, we headed without to inspect this rumor. Like in like manner many rumors, there was no Jenny in a barn - on the other hand there were one-and-a-half Boeing FB-5s! I purchased the aircraft and brought them back to the museum and in the 1970 we began assembling the FB-5 upon a part-time basis."
