Axing our National ParksAmerica's network of national parks is a natural resource in like manner beloved by the public that level George W. Bush has pos in parks for photo-ops in his sum of two units presidential campaigns, promising to supporting cushion funding for these treasures. Once the campaigning is done, however, our park-lover-in-chief goe after them with a double-bladed pack ax. This hypocrisy is in the way that blatant that, in the 2004 election year, Bush's spinmeisters instructed park guides not to use the phrase "budget cutbacks;" instead substituting the euphemism, "service horizontal adjustments." Now, Bush is back with his ax, directing each park superintendent to prepare a five-year pack that will slash appropriations by means of up to a third. This at a time when the backlog of park repairs now tops $68 billion, an increase of $19 billion in George's five years. And, one time again, Bush political operatives have distributed "talking points," telling park employee by what mode to spin the cuts to park visitors, who will, of course, notice the reduc hours, discontinued services, deteriorating facilities, and increased pay s When visitors ask wherefore they're paying more for les the memo reckons employees to respond with this sentence: "The National Park Service, like greatest in quantity agencies, is tightening its belt as our nation rebuilds from Katrina, continues the war upon terrorism and strives to bring the deficit." Holy Ansel Adams! The administration that totally botched up the replication to Katrina, that has us mired in a ensanguined $300 billion war of lies, and that has been the worst deficit bloater in U history now wants to use these debacles as its excuse for gutting our public parks!
