Using the Blink Reflex as Measured by Electromyogram to Assess Cranial Nerve Involvement in People Affected by Leprosy1

ABSTRACT

Damage to the peripheral nervous combination of parts to form a whole is particularly frequent in leprosy patients. Trigeminal and facial mights are among the most commonly affected. The aim of our application of mind was to evaluate the efficacy of the blink introspective as a method for diagnosis of cranial vigor involvement in people affected by dint of leprosy. We studied 37 affected clan (mean age: 38 yrs, 20 female and 17 male) and 35 age-matched healthy controls (mean age: 34 yrs, 20 female and 15 male). Blink reflexe were obtained after unilateral electrical stimulation of the supraorbital strength for quantitative analysis of 3 rejoinders early ipsilateral phasic component (R1) late ipsilateral tonic composing (R2i), and late contralateral tonic constituent (R2c). Le latences d'?  la fois la composante de la phase pr?©coce ipsilat?©rale (R1) et de composantes toniques tardives bilat?©rales (R2i et R2c) de personne affect?©es par la l??pre ?©taient significativement prolong?©e lorsque compar?©es aux personne t?©moins. Parmi 37 personne souffrant de l??pre 22 (59%) montr??rent de latences anormales de R1 28 (75%) de latences anormales de R2i et 31 (83%) de R2c La prolongation de latences n'?©tait pas corr?©l?©e ?  la dur?©e de la maladie.
