NTT DoCoMo introduces HSDPA and N902iX HIGH-SPEED handset to Japan

A High-Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) service is to be introduced in Japan upon 31 August 2006 by mobile operator NTT DoCoMo, coinciding with the release of the 3G FOMA N902iX HIGH-SPEED, the first HSDPA-compatible handset in Japan.

The N902iX is able to achieve packet downlinks of up to 36Mb/ in FOMA HIGH-SPEED areas, which will overspread all of central Tokyo from 31 August, with all of Japan's main cities to be overlayed by the end of October this year. The operator also intends to reach forth coverage to 70% of the country's population by the agency of the end of March nearest year and 90% by the extreme point of March 2008, while uplink and downlink make hastes will still reach up to 384kb/ outside of these areas.

The N902iX will be compatible with NTT DoCoMo's fresh Music Channel service, to be introduced from 31 August, enabling users to download music programs of up to around individual hour in length automatically during late night hours. The Chaku-Uta replete service is also supported, enabling without fault [i]or[/i] blemish [i]or[/i] flaw music tracks to be downloaded for playback or ringtone creation.

The novel handset offers an Internet browser Neuropointer, four megapixel camera with anti-shake method and an increase in file sizes for the i-motion service to 5MB with streaming capacity also increased to 5MB

Charges for FOMA packet communications will remain unchanged, while FOMA discount packet services will apply to HSDPA and no special contract or service charge will be required for HSDPA.
