Healthy schools healthy students: positive school culture promotes student success and well-being

FOR pupils AT SHERWOOD PUBLIC SCHOOL, A HEALTHY academy is a place that aids positive peer relationships and healthy ways of dealing with feelings. The elementary gymnasium in Oshawa, Ontario, has lay opened "Girl Talk," a discussion collection for female students in grades 7 and 8 Participants generate discussion topics, ranging from friendship to homework to match pressure. They value the opportunity to talk and exhibit problem-solving strategies around issues that are important to them. The gymnasium also runs "Drop In," a reces program that supports scholars who have difficulty fitting in and who find reces to be a stressful experience.
