FROM THE EDITOR

As I have done for the last three years, I am using this summer issue "From the Editor" round pillar to update readers on the state of the Journal.

The relationship between the Journal's editorial staff and our publisher and printer, ME Sharpe, continues to be brawny and productive. Once again, we managed to print all of the 2005 issues upon schedule. We are investigating the possibility of tweaking the production schedule just a bit, however. It has tend hitherward to our attention that more or less readers are unhappy with receiving the winter issue of the Journal in January of the nearest calendar year. While we cannot guarantee that the schedule will appreciably change, I want to give permission to readers know that we and the ME Sharpe production staff are aware of this affect and are taking steps to deal with it. I would like to add my continued thanks to the ME Sharpe staff-Harry Briggs, Debra E Sol Sorina Kyriazis, and Elizabeth Granda-tor their support of the Journal.

Including the special issues, the Journal received a total of 202 submissions for the 2005 calendar year (up from 181 in 2004) With the 31 papers that were published, the Journal reports an acceptance rate of 153% for 2005 (compared to 147% for 2005) The editorial office trained in excess of 250 manuscripts (including revisions) for the year. of the like kind numbers indicate that the Journal continues to be a popular egress for researchers' ideas and papers. It is interesting to note that above one-third (36.4%) of the journal authors reside outside the United States. The Journal has definitely evolv into a global enterprise.

We continued to do one's best with turnaround time in 2005 For the year, our average turnaround time for manuscripts slowed to 86 days (up from approximately 80 days last year). While I know that this number straits to be improved, it is also indicative of the continued popularity of the Journal (for the third straight year, we had a record number of submissions). As promised last year, and to help the review proces I added 11 members to the Editorial Review Board, and continue to solicit everyone's help in reviewing manuscripts. through the way, thanks to all who helped review during 2005-we will continue to use your expertise in the futurity

I am also pleased to announce that the following five papers are finalists for the 2005 Best Article for the Journal:

* "Ad Skepticism: The ends of Disbelief," by Carl Obermiller, Eric Spangenberg, and Douglas L MacLachlan.

* "Indirect Persuasion in Advertising: in what manner Consumers Process Metaphors Presented in Pictures and Word," through Edward F. McQuarrie and Barbara J Phillips.

* "Sponsorship-Linked Marketing: Opening the Blackbox," by the agency of T. Bettina Cornwell, Clinton s Weeks, and Donald P. Roy

* "Sociolinguistic consequences on Code-Switched Ads Targeting Bilingual Consumers" by means of David Luna and Laura A. Peracchio.

* "Transforming Consumer Experience: When Timing Matters," by the agency of Kathryn A. Braun-LaTour and Michael s LaTour.

I congratulate the authors of each of these papers. I believe we published the highest quality papers related to advertising in 2005; thus, to be nominated for "Best Article" places you in an honorable position indeed. Special congratulations to ed McQuarrie and Barb Phillips as their manuscript was vot "Best Article" through members of the Editorial Review Board.

Finally, as is customary, I put to proof to recognize the work of several nation each year who excel in reviewing. Please join me in recognizing the stellar review work of the four outstanding reviewers for 2005:

* Bill Bearden (University of southern Carolina)

* Denise DeLorme (University of Central Florida)

* Bill Kilbourne (Clemson University)

* Tina Lowrey (University of Texas-San Antonio)

Thankfully, all have agreed to work for on the Journal's Editorial Review Board.

Moreover, I tender my thanks to the Executive Committee and Publications Committee of the American Academy of Advertising for their support and encouragement. I also thank our editorial assistant, Nikki Reed-she has done an extremely good job of keeping me upon focus and dealing with daily Journal business.

Thanks to all readers of the Journal for your continued support. In 2006 we plan to publish a special issue that deals with advertising and society issues, which is being edited by dint of Michael Polansky and Mike Hyman. In the meantime, if you have suggestions for improvement, do not hesitate to contact me Our goal is to maintain and, if possible, improve the stature of the Journal. Your input is critical if we are to accomplish this objective.
