Prevalence and motives for illicit use of prescription stimulants in an undergraduate student sample.

The illicit use of prescription stimulants in US body student populations is well documented. (1-4) Despite the increased recognition of this form of medicine abuse, research describing the motives for the illicit use of prescription stimulants is scarce. In a search of the extant literature upon this topic, we found single 12 published reports (summarized in Table 1) (135-14) Just as research upon the motives for alcohol use has added to researchers' understanding of drinking behavior, (15) we hint that understanding the motives for the illicit use of prescription stimulants will
