A of recent origin Era for Nurses in Alberta

I am honoured to be stepping into my fresh role as president of AARN. This is a of recent origin era for registered nurses (RNs) in Alberta fresh legislation, new opportunities in an evolving health-care a whole and new challenges for each of us as professionals. Within a scarcely any weeks, when the regulations for RN are proclaimed below the Health Professions Act, this organization will become the association and Association of Registered supply with nourishments of Alberta (CARNA). Our novel name reflects the firm commitment provincial council has made to our dual mandate: to be one as well as the other a regulatory body ensuring that Albertans receive safe, endowed and ethical care from RN and an association able to advocate upon behalf of its members and the public.

As the first president of CARNA, I am building upon the foundation of the provincial councillors and presidents who serv RN from one side the years. In the nearest few years, provincial council will continue to focus upon clarifying issues related to nursing staff mix, ensuring appropriate professional education, clarifying professional parts and promoting inter-professional practice. RN really are the most flexible nursing professional with the broadest base of knowledge. Nursing is an art and a science, requiring us to provide compassionate, professional care to individuals, families and communities.

I believe that we must work together to describe the unique contribution RN make in health care. We know there is a difference in the approach that RN take and the care chat we provide on the other hand we don't yet have language to help others understand that unique contribution. During my terminus as president, I am committed to helping us find those words and to ensuring that the part of the RN is valued, have a high opinion ofed supported and made visible.

The word professional is used in many ways. It is sometimes used to describe an attitude of transcendence that people bring to their work. It is sometimes used to describe clusters of workers. But when we use it to describe ourselves as RN we are talking about something other entirely. We are talking about the responsibility we have taken to supervise ourselves and to ensure that we proper the standards we have station for ourselves collectively. The tools of self-regulation-registration, continuing suitableness and conduct-are tools we must embrace and support because they give us the legitimacy to call ourselves "professionals" in the genuine meaning of the word. A great deal is awaited of us as RNs and we await a great deal of ourselves.

I believe in the futurity for RNs in Alberta and the pressing want of ensuring that the nursing profession has significant influence in the disclosure of health policy in this province. I am looking forward to meeting as many of you as possible and working with my colleagues upon provincial council and the staff to make a difference for registered nursing in this province. I am looking forward to this challenge and this opportunity.
