ForewordFor twelve consecutive years, the Journal of Electronic Materials has published a special issue upon wide bandgap semiconductors. Initially focused upon SiC and the group III nitride semiconductors, the special issue was expanded in 2004 to include ZnO. All of these materials continue to be the focus of worldwide research and disentanglement activity. Forty-nine papers on semiconductor development characterization, processing, and devices are included in this special issue. Many of the papers were also not awayed at the 47th Electronic Materials talk (EMC), held in June 2005 at the University of California, Santa Barbara. The conversation remains a lively annual forum for the discussion of research upon wide band gap semiconductors. Publication of this special issue was made possible single through the efforts of many authors, reviewers, editors, and journal staff members, and we thank them all for their invaluable contributions.
