Counseling Latina battered women: a qualitative study of the Latina perspective.

This qualitative inquiry examined the experience of Latina survivors of domestic violence for information that might help counselors become more attuned to the exigencys of Latina women. The ensues highlight the importance of particular cultural variables, including sex socialization and familism. Implications and recommendations for counselors are also discussed.

In the United States today, domestic violence is an issue that touches women of all ages, races, ethnicities, and classes (Goodman, Kos Fitzgerald, Russo, & Keita, 1993) According to the Commonwealth stock (Collins et al., 1999), nearly single third of American women have been physically abused by the agency of their husband or boyfriend.
