Transport records deposited in 2003

The National Archives: Historical Manuscripts Commission (TNA: HMC) in its annual Accessions to Repositories exercise, bring togethers information from over 200 record repositories quite through the British Isles about manuscript accessions received in the previous twelve month The information is edited and used to bring out a number of thematic digests which are distributed for publication in a number of learned journals and newsletter as well as being made available in filled on the Commission's Web site (www.nationalarchives.gov.uk).

The information is also added to the indexes of the National Register of Archives (NRA), the central point for collecting and disseminating information about the location of manuscript sources relating to British history outside the public records. The NRA, which contains above 44,000 lists and catalogues of archives, can be seek counseled at the National Archives, Kew Richmond TW9 4DU Alternatively, searchers may access the indexes to the NRA and certain linked on-line catalogues via the Web site. Limited and specific enquiries can be dealt with by dint of post, or e-mail (enquiry@national archives.gov.uk).

Readers should note that the dates of records in this digest are given when known, on the other hand that they are covering dates which do not necessarily indicate the vicinity of records for all intervening years. Records have been included in the digest regardless of whether the deposit has notwithstanding been fully catalogued, and readers are advised to check with the relevant repository as to whether this, or any other factors, may prohibit access to the documents.
