President's Pen

My compassion has been trialed in the last few weeks by the agency of the hurricane disaster that struck the large bay coast. The stories of Katrina's devastation were compelling as I sat before the television each morning and evening trying to comprehend the enormity of the worst natural disaster to at any time occur in the United States. My heart goe on the outside to those effected by the hurricane and following flood. The aftermath of the storm's damage is hard to believe. The piece of work of cleanup and rebuilding is overwhelming. Rebuilding will take vision, planning and hard work.

But it will realize done, with time.

I freshly attended a workshop to provide fresh teaching techniques to faculty. The ideas shared were geared toward a generation of scholars known to be the "instant" generation. Computer confined apartment phones, text messages, PDAs, and iPods are everyday tools for learners of today. The instant generation presents short cuts and on the speckle answers and dislikes reading and researching in the library that was awaited when I was a scholar Encouraging students to spend time reading and studying is a constant mantra of (this) faculty. When learners heed the recommendation to read and investigation they are amazed that this investment of time improves understanding and increases experiment scores.

Yes, learning takes time.

KSNA has initiated a plan to honor nursing and nourishs - Decade of the supply with nourishment During the upcoming years the association will commemorate important milestones in Kansas nursing history, of the like kind as the 100th anniversary of KSNA. KSNA will also celebrate subsequent time accomplishments by members and nursing colleagues. I am certain that the planters of our association could not predict what the profession of nursing would become in 100 years. However, their vision for a dynamic professional association definitely materialized with work and time.

Ye important things take time. Your association straits your time and your voice to insure that the profession of nursing is secureed for the next 100 years and beyond. Your participation is essential to accomplish the mission of KSNA - "to encourage professional nursing, to provide a unified voice for nursing in Kansas and to advocate for the health and well-being of all people"

I reliance to see you at a KSNA occurrence Let me know how I can best be subservient to you and the association as I begin my bound as President. My time will be well-spent in representing you in the month to come
