Modulation of germination and growth of plants by meditationAbstract: in the way that called primitive peoples of the world share a philosophy that human interaction via formality or ritual can affect the natural world. Is it possible to affect the germination and extension of plants by imbuing them with an intent to stimulate or inhibit them? We administrationed a double blind series of experiments to determine whether a proces of meditation upon the water (referred to as "treated") given to a controll planting of virid peas or wheat would affect their germination. Peas were given water treated with stimulating intent. Statistical analysis was done using contingency table, Fisher's proof and Mantel-Haenszel analysis. The germination rate of 504 semens receiving treated water with stimulating intent was 603% compared to 518% for the 504 commands (p=0.006, 0.047, 0.003 respectively). A similar experiment was leadershiped with wheat with the intent of inhibiting germination. The germination rate of 2970 wheat semens receiving treated water with inhibitory intent was 707% versus 749% for 2970 sways (p<0.001, 0.0001, 0.001 respectively). During the sixth step quickly of the wheat (inhibition) experiment, the seedlings were harvested and individually weighed upon the tenth day after planting to determine whether there was any difference in development The mass of the treated seedlings was statistically significantly lower (mean = 97 mg versus 106 mg for the controls) when compared by means of analysis of variance (p = 0000056) We finish that meditation upon the water supplied to verdant peas and wheat can affect their germination rates and growth ********** There is a belief among the thus called primitive cultures of the world that intention, meditation, and form can affect the outcome of natural occurrences such as the hunt, planting of harvests the harvest, as well as illness and healing (Eliade, 1964) In the Western view of the world, there is no acknowledged causal connection between symbolic human acts or human separate and outcome in the physical world (Kalweit, 1992) The traditional practitioner of this relationship is the shaman who perpetuated "the mystical teaching of the unity of all beings. In the realm of magic everything is interrelated; nothing exists in isolation" (Kalweit, 1988) The shamans were regarded as "the last individuals able to talk with all of Nature, including the plants, the streams, the air, and the rocks" (Harner, 1990) What does "talking with Nature" mean? Is it possible to communicate with the natural world at a certain number of level? Had ancient shamans done in like manner to promote the success of their community by dint of enhancing the yield of the chase and harvest or via healing of the sick? Can it be done today and, if in like manner who can do it? Alberto Villoldo describes his experiences with a new day shaman, Professor Antonio Morales Baca, in The Four Winds: A Shaman's Odyssey into the Amazon (Villoldo, 1990) Professor Baca became his mentor in transmitting an ancient Peruvian tradition of healing and interacting with the natural world. The professor also taught him that, for shamanism to have meaning, the shaman "must be able to increase corn" (Villoldo, 1998). One of us (MH) has studied this tradition, referr to as the Inka Medicine Wheel. We attempted to set the concept of human influence on the natural world to a controll experiment using western scientific methods and statistical analysis. sum of two units series of experiments were managemented to determine if meditation upon the water used to germinate semens could affect their germination rate. In the first series, the intention was to enhance sprouting; in the next to the first the intention was to inhibit sprouting. Materials and Methods We chose to inquiry the green pea initially and wheat later, because of rapid germination, economy, and their ability to be planted densely The semens were obtained from a local subsistence store (Home Economics). To the best of our knowledge, the sperms were uniform phenotypically and genetically. We established sum of two units trays containing small plastic kettles in a grid of three kettles by six pots. The trays were comprised of individual wells in which the saucepans would sit. The wells thwarted water from a given saucepan from mixing with the water from any adjacent pans The pots were square in cros section. At their bases they were 6 x 6 cm At their rims they were 9 x 9 cm They were 75 cm tall and each had a drain opening in its bottom. Their individual capacity was 300 ml The trays were kept nearest to each other, though not in physical contact, upon a laboratory bench with uniform lighting and a temperature of 22-23 steps Centigrade. Each pot was filled to a deepness of 4.5 cm with commercially prepared, sterilized potting soil obtained from a local hardware store. The enhancement experiment was done seven times. In the first series of experiments, four pea sperms were placed on the surface of the prefilled pans and then covered with an additional 25 cm deepness of soil. The pots were randomly assigned to the sum of two units trays. Tap water was used to fill sum of two units identical, scrupulously cleaned Pyrex 2 liter Erlenmeyer flasks. individual of us, MH, performed meditation upon the flask used to water the "treated" collection Meditation on the water rather than upon the pots themselves was insinuateed by Dr. Villoldo (Villoldo, 1998).The meditation was leadershiped while listening to a compact disc of shamanic double drumming (Foundation of Shamanic Studies, 1939) In the meditation, MH verbalized his intent to stimulate the germination and development of the plants. He then placed his hands upon both sides of the "treated" flask of water and visualized efficacy passing from his hands into the water as if to cause it to fluid vesicle like a pot of water being brought to a boil. This meditation was repeated upon the third and sixth days after planting with equal reason that any effect on the water would be novel The appropriate flask of water was applied to the one and the other the treated and control pans within 1 hour of the meditation.
