SEARCH ENGINE HAS FAMILIAR FEEL

The staff in the computer services department have installed a fresh search engine for library Web site and InfoLink searches. The search engine, which is actually a Google Mini appliance, go [i]or[/i] come backs search results in a format that greatest in quantity patrons are already familiar with, allowing them greater ease in finding what they are looking for.

"I'm actual impressed with the appliance's early operation. I'm greatest in quantity impressed with its ability to search annotations. Now we can load our annotations with lock opener words, whereas previously it didn't do any serviceable because the system didn't search annotations," said Library Center regard Librarian Mike DePue. "In fact, I might rework a certain quantity of of my annotations at a later date and incorporate additional keywords."

The fresh search engine provides many benefits. ensues are provided with relevancy rankings, with the greatest in quantity relevant results listed first. The search chest at the top right of each page searches the entire site. upon InfoLink pages, the "SearchlnfoLink" chest uses the new appliance to search sole InfoLink and the FAQs. The "Find a Book" chest on the home page replaces the former "Search the Catalog" option.

The Google appliance has been scheduled to "crawl" or index the entire site upon Sundays and Wednesdays. The proces takes approximately nine hours and will render certain that changes and new items to the Web site are picked up in searches.
