Electric Properties Of Biological MaterialsThis (NIST) bibliographic-survey addresses the electrical properties of biological materials. The number of electronic devices -- which includes cardiac defibrillators, cardiac pacemakers, infusion interrogates and spinal cord stimulators -- that assist or supplant physiological function is steadily increasing. of that kind personal medical electronic devices (PMEDs) are susceptible, in principle, to interference owed to electromagnetic fields emitted through other electronic or electrical devices. Biological phantoms (i.e., materials designed to emulate the electrical properties of biological tissues) have been widely used to evaluate the consequences of electromagnetic radiation on human tissues. of that kind materials have been used in the studies of clinical application of hyperthermia for treatment of cancer, and to estimate the hazard to biological tissues to be paid to exposure to electromagnetic fields. The contenteds also includes: results of electrical measurements of biological tissues, phantom materials, and materials that may have potential use as phantom materials; specific descriptions and evaluations of phantoms; and techniques for the measurement of electrical properties.
